Player selection Q&A
Q1: What is the player evaluation process?
A1: Players are selected for Region 60’s EXTRA™ Program team based on evaluations by impartial evaluators at standardized tryouts. Full participation in at least one tryout session is a requirement for selection, although they may choose to attend more than one. Evaluation sessions include:
● Impartial and outside evaluators that are experienced Advanced Coaches
● A variety of standardized drills and scoring
● Use of bib #s instead of names during rating.
Q2: How are players selected?
A2: The player evaluations will determine the initial player candidates for each team. Player candidates will be invited to participate in practices and tournaments for continued evaluation until final team roster is selected, no later than the end of June. In addition, families must meet the volunteer commitments during this time. Final selections will be made by the Selection Committee. Coaches are not involved with the final team selection.
Q3: When will parents be notified if their player made the team?
A3: Parents will be notified if their child was selected for the initial player candidate pool, typically no later than the end of April. Parents will typically be notified if their child was selected to the final team, no later than the end of June.
Q4: What happens if they don’t make the team?
A4: Players will participate in AYSO Region 60 Fall Core program as they will already have registered and paid for the Fall Season.
Q5: What if my player is already involved with another club/sports team?
A5: EXTRA™ participation requires EXTRA™ commitment. Cannot be on another youth sports team, including soccer and other sports. This is done to avoid overuse injuries, and align with US Soccer Organization development guidelines.
